Orchard Light II, 2025Sold

I paint what is left once the noise of a place has settled: the line a tide leaves on sand, the way light rests in an old orchard in the late afternoon. The paintings are slow and built in thin layers of oil, and I stop when the picture goes quiet.
Most of the work begins outdoors, with a notebook and a few small studies made on the spot. Back in the studio those studies are set aside, and I paint from memory of how the place felt rather than how it looked.
Two series run through the work at the moment: Low Tide, made on the flats near the studio, and Orchard Light, a single autumn spent in one old orchard. (Sample wording; the owner replaces it in the owner area.)
